Companies Should Be Focus ‒ Brandes

Stock markets have nothing to do with true investing, says Charles Brandes, founder and chairman of Brandes Investment Partners, L.P. Speaking at the Capital Markets Institute @ Rotman Speaker Series’ session ‘Value: The Independent Investor,’ he said most of the time investors should not be influenced by what the markets are doing, they should be looking at the companies they own and what they are doing over time. The same holds true for investing in emerging markets. What investors should be looking at whether investing in emerging or developed markets is the individual companies and markets. Each emerging market is different, he said, with the market in Brazil a whole lot different from the market in Russia. However, business is basically the same throughout the world.
