For the first time in history, the Canadian middle class is the richest in the developed world, says a New York Times study. After-tax middle-class incomes in Canada ‒ substantially behind in 2000 ‒ are now higher even than the middle class in the U.S. This shows that middle-class incomes have increased faster in Canada than anywhere else. Canada’s poor also seem to be better off than similar families in the U.S.; the study shows U.S. families at the 20th percentile of the income distribution make significantly less money than a similar family in Canada.
